Dataset description

This dataset contains measurements used in the paper, 'A reproducible approach to the assembly of microcapillaries for double emulsion production', published in the journal, Microfluidics and Nanofluidics (doi:10.1007/s10404-016-1806-2). Included are optical micrographs of commercially pre-pulled micropipettes which were used to assess the frequency and severity of tip misalignment caused by capillary pulling. A spreadsheet containing the completed analysis of these images is also included. This analysis underlies our argument that due to the regular defects in pulled micropipettes, a new reproducible assembly procedure for using glass capillaries in the production of double emulsions is needed. Microfluidic devices made using our new assembly procedure were evaluated by generating water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) and oil-in-water-in-oil (O/W/O) double emulsions - videos of which are available here. Finally, rheological measurements of the working fluids used are also included. If using the information from this dataset to aid your own work, the authors would kindly ask you to consider also citing the original journal article.
