Dataset description
N = 84 participants participated in a Dictator Game being either a proposer or responder (random allocation to roles) and shared both water and a monetary incentive. In advance to the study, all participants went through a training session for an experimental induction of thirst. Thirst was measured on a subjective scale from 1 (‚not thirsty at all‘ to 7 (‚very thirsty‘). Proposers were randomly to one experimental condition: They either received a windfall incentive to be shared or had to earn water and money incentives during the training session. Size of the incentives to be shared was depending on their performance during the session (5, 7.5, 10 Euro, 100, 150, 200 ml of water). Main dependent variables were a) how much proposers offer to anonymous responders (in ml and Euro) and b) how much respondents expect to receive from proposers (in ml and Euro).
Additional information: | The current study was approved by the ethics committee of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin. PLEASE NOTE: Changes were made to this dataset 19/7/2018 as a result of peer review for publication in PLOS. 1. The title changed from "Dataset associated with ‘How selfish is a thirsty man? A comparison of sharing behaviour with primary and secondary goods'" to "Dataset associated with ‘How selfish is a thirsty man? A pilot study on comparing sharing behaviour with primary and secondary rewards'" 2. A new file, WaterMoney_BayesianAnalysis.jasp was added. 3. The code for analysing experimental data was updated with a new version | ||||||
