1. ABOUT THE DATASET -------------------- Title: Dataset associated with 'Wear of a ceramic-on-ceramic hip resurfacing under activities of daily function' Creator(s): Raelene Cowie, Louise Jennings Organisation(s): University of Leeds Rights-holder(s):Unless otherwise stated, Copyright 2026 University of Leeds Publication Year: 2026 Description: This dataset contains files associated with the article 'Wear of a ceramic-on-ceramic hip resurfacing under activities of daily function'. Files include, the wear rate of the ceramic heads and cups when tested under different activities of daily function. Wear was measured gravimetrically, In addition, the pre- and post-test surface roughness measurements are provided, these were taken using a contacting form talysurf with 2 measurements taken on each head and 3 measurements on each cup. For further details relating to the measurements refer to the methods section of the article which described the gravimetric and surface roughness measurements comprehensively. For the wear rate measurements, additional statistical analysis has been provided in the repository which shows the output from SPSS. Observations of the occurrence of squeaking under different activities have also been provided. Cite as: Cowie, Raelene M. & Jennings, Louise M. PROJECT AND FUNDING INFORMATION ---------------------------------- Title: The study was funded though the Innovation and Knowledge Centre Phase 2 Dates: August 2020 - January 2023 Funding organisation: EPSRC; MatOrtho provided implants for this study Grant no.: EP/N00941X/1 4. CONTENTS ----------- File listing Wear_rate.txt - please copy data into excel. Mean +/- 95% confidence limits for the combined wear of the heads and cups under each activity of daily living of interest. In addition, the individual wear rate of each implant has also been provided. Surface_roughness.txt - please copy data into excel. Pre- and post-test surface roughness measurements of the heads and cups. Data for individual components provided. Additional_stats.pdf - additional statistical analysis of the wear rate of the implants. A pairwise comparison has been shown. Squeaking occurance.pdf - table detailing when squeaking occurred from the different implants. 5. METHODS ---------- - Study carried out using 2 3-station ProSim Electromechanical hip simulators [EM16 A and B] under different activities of daily living - Gravimetric analysis carried out on a Mettler Toledo XP205 digital microbalance and converted to a wear volume using the density of BIOLOX Delta ceramic - Surface topographical analysis carried out using a Taylor Hobson contacting Form Talysurf (PGI 800) - Full methods described in the manuscript: Cowie, R.M.; de Villiers, D.; Collins, S.N.; Jennings, L.M.
