1. ABOUT THE DATASET -------------------- Title: Data associated with "The Influence of Lubricant Temperature of the Wear of Total Knee Replacements Creator(s): Raelene M Cowie; Louise M Jennings Organisation(s): Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds, UK. LS2 9JT Rights-holder(s): Unless otherwise stated, Copyright 2022 University of Leeds Publication Year: 2023 Description: This dataset contains material to supplement the experiemntal wear simulation communication "The Influence of Lubricant Temperature on the Wear of Total Knee Replacements" including: wear rates and measurements of bulk lubricant temperature. Wear rates of UHMWPE tibial components were calculated from gravimetric analysis of the polyethylene and the wear wolume was converted to a wear rate; bulk lubricant temperatures were measured using a thermocouple positioned in the lubricant close to the articulating surface of the joint. The wear of an all-polymer total knee replacement (PEEK-OPTIMA-on-UHMWPE) compared to a conventional metal-on-UHMWPE implant of similar initial surface topography and geometry. The elevated temperature test carried out in this study was compared to a previous study [Cowie 2016] at simulator running temperature.
