1. ABOUT THE DATASET -------------------- Title: Creator(s): Alberto Sanchez-Marroquin [1], Ben Murray [1] Organisation(s): 1. University of Leeds Rights-holder(s): Copyright 2023 University of Leeds Publication Year: 2023 Description: Dataset associated to the publication "Aircraft ice-nucleating particle and aerosol composition measurements in the Western North American Arctic". The dataset contains the sampling locations, INP concentrations (both concentrations and freezing temperatures obtained in the experiments) and SEM-EDS data (size distributions from both SEM and optical probes, as well as EDS size-resolved composition fractions).shown in the publication. It additionally contains the HYSPLIT backtrajectories shown in the SM. Cite as: Alberto Sanchez-Marroquin and Benjamin J. CONTENTS ----------- File listing - sampling locations/Latitutdes-Longitudes.csv: This file contains the latitudes and longitudes (in format -180 to 180) of the centre point of the location where each sample was collected. - INP concentrations/freezing_temp_Celsius.csv. File containing a column for each sample analysed with the EF600 instrument (blank, handling blanks and samples). Each column corresponding to each sample contains the freezing temperatures recorded during the experiments. This information ca be used to reconstruct the fraction frozen and k values discussed in the publication. - INP concentrations/INP_concentrations.csv: File containing a columns with the all the INP concentrations, temperatures of the concentrations and sample name of all the INP concentrations shown in Fig. 2b. Note the temperatures and INP concentrations shown here have been calculated using the k calculation method explained in the appendix A1. Additionally, upper and lower error bars are also given in the file. Note that a lower error bar which the same magnitude as the INP concentration corresponds to an upper limit of the INP concentration. -backtrajectories/C0XX_X.txt: For each sample, there is a text file containig the output from the backtrajectory ensemble run (HYSPLIT). Size-resolved composition: for each the four samples analysed for this work, there is three files containing the data - size-resolved composition/sample name(C0XX_X)/sample_name_probes_size_distribution.csv: size distribution measured by the optical probes (PCASP-CDP) corresponding to each sample. The data is an average value calculated from the data stored in "Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements; Natural Environment Research Council; Met Office (2018): FAAM C085 MACSSIMIZE flight: Airborne atmospheric measurements from core and non-core instrument suites on board the BAE-146 aircraft. Centre for Environmental Data Analysis.". For further details of the calculation, see Sanchez-Marroquin et al., 2019. - size-resolved composition/sample name(C0XX_X)/sample_name_SEM_composition.csv: file containing the fraction of particles corresponding to each compositional category as shown in Fig. 4. The indexes correspond to each category, while the column names to the bin ranges. The values in the table correspond to fraction, summing one for each column. - size-resolved composition/sample name(C0XX_X)/sample_name_SEM_size_distribution.csv: File containing the size distribution measured using the SEM technique. The bins are the same as in the composition file, although only the bin centre has been given. The error bar has also been presented here. 5. METHODS ---------- - INP concentrations: These were generated from PTFE filter aerosol samples collected on board of the BAe-146 FAAM research aircraft. The filters were analysed using a freezing assay on a EF600 instrument (Whale et al., 2014, Price et al., 2018). - SEM-EDS size-resolved composition. This data was generated using aerosol samples collected on top of polycarbonate filters on board of the BAe-146 FAAM research aircraft. The filters were analysed using our SEM-EDS approach (Sanchez-Marroquin et al., 2019)
