1. ABOUT THE DATASET -------------------- Title: Roads, waterbodies, and floodwaters for the Barotse Floodplain, 2018 Creator(s): Elizabeth Mroz, Thomas Willis, Mark Smith Organisation(s): University of Leeds Rights-holder(s): Copyright 2023 University of Leeds Publication Year: 2023 Description: Dataset of roads, waterbodies, and floodwater depth and velocity for the Barotse Floodplain. Roads are a fusion of available data from OpenStreetMap and data manually delineated from very high resolution composite satellite imagery from Google Earth and Microsoft Bing Maps. The data represent roads on the Barotse Floodplain accurately as of July 2021. Waterbodies were delineated for the major rivers and canals on the Barotse Floodplain. The shapefile contains an attribute table which contains the average widths of each waterbody. The floodwater depth and velocity rasters were obtained from a LISFLOOD-FP hydrodynamic inundation model set-up to represent the Barotse Floodplain. The spatial resolution is 100 m. There is a raster output for each month between October 2017 and October 2018, representative of the 2018 hydrological year. PROJECT AND FUNDING INFORMATION ---------------------------------- Title: Incorporating seasonal flooding into frameworks modelling geographical access to health services Dates: October 2020 - September 2021 This dataset was not created in the course of a funded project. 4. CONTENTS ----------- Folder name: Mroz_ROADS Description: Polyline shapefile of roads on the Barotse Floodplain. In the attribute table, ID corresponds to the road type classification. 1 is primary road. 2 is secondary road. 3 is unpaved track. 5 is elevated highway. 6 is a bridge or watercrossing. Refer to the related publication for more information on the classifications. Files: Five files with the same syntax but different file extensions, as standard with a shapefile. All files are required for the dataset to be usable, and all must be organised and readable in the same workspace. When inputting the data into a GIS, input the .SHP. See the following link for further information on understanding shapefile extensions: https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage-data/shapefiles/shapefile-file-extensions.htm Folder name: Willis_VEL Description: Monthly 100-m resolution rasters representating floodwater velocities across the Barotse Floodplain between October 2017 and October 2018. Units are in metres per second. Files: 13 files organised numerically with the following syntax - BFP_VEL_2018_#. BFP indicates the data is for the Barotse Floodplain. VEL indicates the data is of floodwater velocity. 2018 is the hydrological year. # is a unique numerical identifier corresponding to which month the raster represents. 0 is October 2017. 1 is November 2017. 2 is December 2017. 3 is January 2018. 4 is February 2018. 5 is March 2018. 6 is April 2018. 7 is May 2018. 8 is June 2018. 9 is July 2018. 10 is August 2018. 11 is September 2018. 12 is October 2018.
